Age Requirements

A child must be 3 years old by September 1 in order to enroll in the pre-school program.

Gesell Testing

Pre-school students are screened using Gesell testing which is an individual assessment of readiness for school.

Pre-Kindergarten Readiness

 

Is your child ready for Pre-K?  This list will help you make an informed decision.  Your own instincts are your best guide.  Whatever your decision, make it a positive one for your child.   

 

Social

· Can sit and wait their turn

· Develops a sense of personal space

· Begins to show self-control

· Begins to show the ability to control intense feelings

 

Physical

· Shows an awareness of name, location, and relationship of body parts

· Becomes more able to move from one space to another in different ways(running, jumping, hopping, skipping)

· Begins to participate in group games

 

Intellectual

· Beginning to show sustained attention

· Able to communicate effectively with peers and adults

· Shows an interest and enjoyment in learning and doing new things

 

Emotional

· Can use words rather than physical aggression to communicate their feelings

· Enjoy school

· Does not cling to parent for a substantial period of time when dropped off

· Is cooperative with peers and adults

· Does not "go to pieces" once at home after a school day.
