Middle School :: Student Activities

Athletics

Athletic opportunities abound in middle school. All students are encouraged to try new sports and gain fundamental skills in the sports they choose. The Eagles have fielded middle school teams in football, soccer, volleyball, cross country, basketball, baseball, track, and wrestling. More than 80% of middle school students participate in at least one sport during the year, and many students participate in several.

Fine Arts

Opportunity is also extended in the fine arts arena. All middle school students complete fine arts course work at each grade level. Sixth graders take a music class and band. Seventh and eighth graders may also participate in band and will be involved in the bi-annual Junior Broadway musical through art, being part of set and stage crew or as part of the musical cast. All middle school students participate in the local ACSI Speech Meet.

Chess Club

The Middle School Chess Club is one of the best in the State of Texas and has won the Region 2 Tournament each of the past 4 years. The Chess Club meets weekly and participates in a variety of tournaments over the course of the school year.

4-H Club

4-H is the youth education branch of the Cooperative Extension Service, a program of the United States Department of Agriculture. Each state and each county has access to a County Extension office for both youth and adult programs.

Contests entered include the Foods Show, Talent Show, Fashion Show, Livestock Shows (national and local), and Demonstration competitions. Many scholarships are available to 4-Hers nationwide, and 4-H is recognized by colleges and universities as a strong leadership program. 4-H is an organization that molds children into community leaders which makes the 4-H motto, "To Make the Best Better," a fact.
