MusicStudents in pre-kindergarten through 5th grade receive curriculum-based instruction in music twice a week. The curriculum includes teaching familiar songs and games from our American heritage and patriotic songs, as well as an introduction to developing listening skills. In addition, students receive instruction in the Kodaly method of singing that emphasizes pitch recognition through the use of solfege syllables (do, re, mi). In conjunction with the Kodaly method and beginning in first grade, students are taught fundamental music reading skills. By the time they reach fourth and fifth grade, students have been given sequential instruction in note and rhythm recognition, allowing them to move into middle school with an essential understanding of how to read music. BandStudents in 5th Grade Band begin the year with new instruments in their hands. Each student is tested by our professional private teachers who give their expertise in advising the choice of instrument for each child. ArtArt classes for students in grades pre-K through 5th grade cover the basic elements of art: line, shape, color, value, texture, form and space. Students apply these elements through art projects that include crafts, cut and paste, painting, watercolors, collages and mosaics. Students have class once a week. |
