Student Activities :: Chess Club

Chess is awesome!  The LCCS Chess Program consists of Chess Teams and Chess Teams-in-Training, which meet weekly on Tuesdays during the school year.  The teams meet in the LCCS Cafeteria from 5:30-8:00pm. The program is available to students in grades 2-12.  (For our students in grades K-1, we ask their parent/guardian to attend each meeting to learn with their child.)

A regular meeting consists of teaching or puzzles, then practice games with notation and clocks.  Simple snacks are provided.  We have 2-rated in-club tournaments, one in the fall, one in the spring.  We teach the strategy of chess, good sportsmanship, and how to handle winning and losing.  These skills will help build strong character.  We will be expecting the students to complete homework.

The dues are $95 per student which includes a T-shirt, chess workbook, US Chess Federation membership, simple snacks, and two in-club tournaments (fall and spring) followed by two pizza parties.  We will also require that our students attend an outside chess tournament.  (There will be additional fees to play in the outside tournament)
